Bob Woehler and Tom Moak,
co-chairs

Bob Woehler has been a Kiwanian for 16 years and is a member of the Kennewick Kiwanis Club. He is a past distinguished president of the Kennewick Club, past Lieutenant Governor of Division 54 and was named Kennewick Kiwanian of the Year in 2003.

A retired journalist and naval officer, Bob lives in Kennewick, where he is a past Kennewick Man of the Year. Currently he is a wine columnist for the Tri-City Herald and Wine Press Northwest magazine.

 

 

Tom Moak is a 20-year Kiwanian and past distinguished President of the Kennewick Kiwanis Club. He was named Kennewick Kiwanian of the Year in 2007 and serves as Secretary of the Kennewick Kiwanis Foundation. During the day, Tom is a library manager for Mid-Columbia Libraries and by night is a councilmember for the City of Kennewick. He is a past President of the Association of Washington Cities and a past member of the Washington State House of Representatives.

THURSDAY AUGUST 14
            Kiwanis Golf tournament at 1 p.m. at Canyon Lakes Golf Course in Kennewick, one of the top 10 courses in the Pacific Northwest. Our green fees are about half what they are on the west-side of the Cascades.

Golf Registration Update: Due to the lateness most members received registration materials, the added fee for registering late for the August 14 Golf Tournament has been waived. All those who have paid the late fee will have $15 reimbursed sent by slow mail. Use attached revised golf registration form in registration packet. Thanks. Norm Olson

Salmon bake by the Tillicum Village Indians set for Thursday 6-9 p.m. at Clover Island Inn along the mighty Columbia River with entertainment. $30. Ticket price includes:

  • Alder smoked salmon

  FRIDAY AUGUST 15
            Winery Country tour in an air conditioned 45 passenger bus. Guided by an expert with a visit to three top wineries for a chance to sample 20 different award winning wines. Only $20.  (Refer to wineries being visited and how to sign up)

Friday's Family Kickoff luncheon featuring Dr. Lewis Zirkle of Richland, a modern day Albert Schweitzer, who will talk about his PNW Kiwanis supported SIGN (Surgical Implant Generation Network) "Healing Broken Bones to Save Broken Families."

  • Grilled chicken
  • Caesar salad with tomatoes, black olives, herbed croutons, parmesan and Caesar dressing.

Prior to the Kick-off luncheon, listen to the calypso sounds of Bram Brata, part of the Tri-Cities Steel Drum Association. These kids are our future!)

There will be two free tours of the SIGN headquarters in Richland during the convention on August 15-16, Friday and Saturday, afternoons, transportation furnished by Ben Franklin Transit. The first tour is at 2 p.m. Friday. The second is 2:30 p.m. Saturday. They will be two hour tours. The SIGN bus will pick up Kiwanians at the convention center and includes a tour guide. Friday afternoon jet boat tour of Hanford Reach
This tour takes 4 to 4/12 hours and leaves the dock in Richland and returns there. It goes up the Columbia River on the last free flowing stretch of the Columbia past the Hanford Project to the white bluffs along the shore. A once in a lifetime opportunity narrated by a knowledgeable historian. The boat holds 20 and cost $75 a person.

Self guided tour opportunities at Richland's Columbia River Exhibition of History Science & Technology (CREHST) Museum and the Washington State Museum at Sacajawea State Park where Lewis and Clark set foot over 200 years ago.

For the youngsters Columbia Park with its great Playground of Dreams, skateboard and water spray facilities as well as great for sightseeing, bird watching, picnicking,biking, Frisbee golf course and walking trails.


The J&S Dreamland Express is a recreational train to bring joy to children and their families. The J&S operates in Kennewick, WA on Saturday and Sunday afternoons near the Playground of Dreams in Columbia Park from late spring to early fall. The train may operate at other times by special arrangement. The train is staffed primarily by volunteers from the Kiwanis Club of the Horse Heaven Hills.

Hank Sauer will tell how to hold a wine tasting and magazine editor Andy Perdue will review the history of the cataclysmic Missoula flood that gave the wine country its fertile soil eons ago.

Saturday afternoon on the Columbia River Voyager. A one-hour scenic tours of the Columbia River past the shores of the Tri-Cities. The boat leaves from the Columbia Point dock in Richland. The is price is approximately $30. Contact bccunning@aol.com if interested.

Saturday's Governor's banquet
Featuring Governor Rich Jensen and guest speaker Steve Siemens, past president of Kiwanis International , who is a dynamic inspirational speaker.

Past Lt. Governor Webster Jackson of Pasco will bring his church's gospel group to perform.
